I went into this one not knowing anything about it, or what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good story, and kept me watching and interested for the entire time. It was a beautifully filmed movie, surprising because it was in black and white. I definitely noticed the use of music to enhance the drama of the movie (probably because there wasn't a lot of dialogue in it).
The interesting thing about this movie that I found out (okay...at least I thought it was interesting) is that there is now something called the Rashomon effect. (You can click on the link to find the Wikipedia entry...it explains better than I can.)
One word to describe Rashomon: Engaging.
