Days of Heaven - Terence Malick (1978)

I knew absolutely nothing about this film....nothing. Up until now, I had either heard of the movie, or the director...something. This one....nothing. Me being me...I wanted to do some research on it before watching, because I don't do well with the unknown. I resisted, because I wanted to watch it and draw my own conclusions.

The first thing I noticed about this movie was that it was visually stunning. It very much reminded me of a painting....well, yes, paintings in general. But one specific one stood out for me: Christina's World, by Andrew Wyeth.

Overall the movie was good. It wasn't dialogue heavy. Pretty much the visuals and the music told the story. A note on the music. It was done by Ennio Morricone (had heard the name before, didn't know much about him....apparently he was the guy who penned the theme to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Yes, you know that song, trust me!!! If you don't know it off the top of your head, google it. See, told you!!)

Overall, good movie (I mean, it has Richard Gere in it, how could it be bad). But I would have to say, probably not going to make it into my top 10 favourite movies of all time. I am glad it was on the list though.

One word to describe 'Days of Heaven': Aesthetic.
